Occult blood andreducing substance stool
My 6 month baby is exclusively on breast milk.  she had something red red mucus in her stool. I have been asked to do stool routine taste for two days. First day report was normal but second day occult blood was positive and reducing substance was present. Is the attached report normal? Or should I go with antibiotic "ofloxacin and metronidazole suspension?" It's been prescribed by pediatrician

Occult blood in stool can be found in constipated babies due to anal fissure , also in Milk protein allergy. Even if baby is breast fed cow milk protein allergy can happen . In that case mother has to stop dairy products temporarily. Stool has reducing substances in lactose intolerance in which case stool Ph will be acidic & perianal excoriation will be there following history of diarrhea . This will need giving low lactose formulas like curd , diluted milk etc . Don’t jump to self medication by antibiotics please which can be dangerous

It might be a case of vitamin k deficiency. Antibiotics will only worsen it if baby doesn't have loose motions or is not sick. Getting vitamin k injection will be better option
