Hello! I completely understand why you want to be sure about the timing of your scans. Let us clarify the exact timeline for you so you get the most accurate results possible for your baby.
To answer your question directly: 10 weeks is generally considered a little too early to actually perform the NT scan.
Here is exactly why the timing needs to be so specific:
The Ideal Window: The strict medical window for an accurate NT scan is between 11 weeks and 13 weeks plus 6 days of pregnancy.
The Size of the Baby: For the radiologist to correctly measure the fluid at the back of the baby neck, the baby must have a Crown Rump Length measuring between 45 millimeters and 84 millimeters. At exactly 10 weeks, the baby is usually just a little too small, which can lead to incomplete or inaccurate readings.
Why your doctor might have mentioned it now:
They likely want you to book the appointment this week so you can secure a time slot for next week or the week after, when you are officially in the correct window.
If your pregnancy dating is based only on your last period, your doctor might suspect you are actually measuring a little further along than 10 weeks.
Next Steps
Please call your clinic or diagnostic center and ask them to schedule the actual ultrasound for when you are between 11 and 12 weeks pregnant. Aiming for the 12th week is usually the absolute best time for the clearest pictures.
