How did you know of mucous degeneration with so little or no symptoms? With the advancement in science  and technology there is  better understanding of human body in health and disease. As s result  lifespan has increased. Economic growth  has contributed much to the physical comforts of mankind.  In lands (countries) of  abundance like in the west & other rich  societies, it is seen that the life style of an a average individual is such that he/she  is  busy  in earning money for physical comforts and pleasures. The humane aspect of humanity is missing. It is being realised  and some effort are being made in the direction. Group discussions, seminars and lectures are organised  by universities, NGOs.  and other social bodies to draw the attention of the socitiey towards the wrong that is creeping in. In spite of all these, the  Social structure has developed in such a way that the humans are becoming more individualist and egoist. Neglect of 'old age people' is a tip of the iceberg of this social evil. This is a global phenomena. Even UNO and  WHO in particular is concerned about it The Baseline report of WHO brings together data available for  measuring healthy ageing, defined as “the process of developing and maintaining the 'functional ability' that enables well-being in older age.” Optimizing “functional ability” is the goal of the Decade of Healthy Ageing, which begins in 2021.  It addresses five interrelated abilities that all older people should enjoy:   1. the ability to meet basic needs; 2. to continue to learn and make decisions; 3.To be mobile; 4.To build and maintain relationships; and 5. to contribute to society. 'WHO has declared 2021-30 as the UN decade of Healthy ageing. Continue reading It is heartening to know that many social  and cultural bodies have started working in the direction of increasing the 'functional  ability of the old age populations, as suggested by WHO. Charity begins at home. The socitiey at large  should understand and realise the importance and the need of increasing the ' functional ability of the 'old age population' The old age population should be motivated to achieve five goals suggested by WHO. They must understand that Old age is not a platform of inertia to wait for death. Long ago H W Longfellow said Life is real, life is earnest & grave is not its goal. If you don't agree to it,  then I think old age is the best recipie for suicide in instalments.  (तिल तिल कर मरना). In India, particularly in Hindu way of life, so much of 'care of old age people ' is imbibed. In Indian ( Hindu) way of life, life is divided into four segments namely 1. Brahmcharya Ashram 2.  Ghrastha Ashram 3. Vanprastha Ashram 4. Sanyas Ashram.     The first three Ashramas are quite indicative of their contents & utility. In our 'Hindu view of life', one qualifies to be called a 'sanyasi' after the attainment of the age  of 75 yrs. i.e. one has to work for 75 yrs. to earn this title called  'sanyasi'. It is not a age of retirement but a turning point in ones life. it is a phase of change over where in masculine  way of life is gradually changed into intilectual style. It is a position of privilege in one's life time. During  old age or so called sanyas, we have both the wealth and culture. Wealth of knowledge  and culture of experience Though some of us become physically weak, may be because of some ailment- acute or chronic. This can be compensated by yoga & meditation.  because you need a healthy body to lodge a healthy mind. Illnesses (sicknesses) come & go. This phenomenon occurs since the  day one  of life to the last day of life.  We have always conquered over the diseases & hence continued to live. Conventionally, When disease  comes in old age, we  loose our hearts, morale goes down and surrender to disese. Unfortunately, social & intellectual atmosphere all over the globe is such that, as age advances we  loose our morale and get depressed. Infomation available on audio Visual  clippings  and other written matter of similar nature   justify 'inertia & wait'. This   pushes us in to a state of  'Malancolia', spontaneous and or reactive. During this journey of 75 years, there are many islands of thought blocks that come in every ones life. we ignore them, overlook  them, neglect them for want of time, ecnomic limitations, social compulsions or lack of knowledge. Old age is the golden era of life, if you are living in joint family. You are the boss with no responsibility. you have a team of small children to play & fondle with, to listen their chats & tell them stories. A word of caution about joint family system. It is breaking fast, not because of children but because of the elders. It is the ego, dominating nature  &  obstinacy on part of elders that generates the feeling of revenge & retaliation in the mind of younger generation. After all obstinacy breeds obstinacy. Here I recollect faintly Chanakya in relation to up bringing of children. He said 'ललायैत पंच वषाणि ताडियेत वरषाणि दस' & do मित्र वर वर्ताव there after. meaning there by that once the child has grown to adolescent age, we should treat them as friend & colleague. Your children are your asset and not your property. Try and understand their viewpoint. Reason out their thoughts.  Treat them as a separate individual with a separate personality cult. They have their own likes and dislikes. Respect them. They may  have a different view on the same issue because at least 25 yrs. have passed since you were of that age and much changes have taken place in all walks of life ever since then. When a child is born and the umbilical cord is cut, he/she is a different, separate individual with his own penalty aura and ego. Their existence must be accepted and  respected.  If it is not done so, and you begin to impose your views  on them, they will retaliate and will not accept your existence. In Hindu way of life, lot of emphasis is laid on rebirth and reincarnation. A number of duties are ascribed to the children and elders in regards to their inter personal relationships. Lot of rituals are ascribed to the children, particularly to sons that they have to perform at the time of last rites of the father. If they fail to do those rituals,  then they will get devine punishment in their next birth. This creates a sense of fear and feeling of responsibility  towards their parents and other family members. भय बिन प्रीति ना भैई गोसाई--तुलसी दास। I think this is a big force that keeps the family United and propagates joint family system. This keeps the son  with the parents in their old age  and particularly at the time of their death. Medical Research & sanyas. No doubt, to day, we have a highly developed medical science and technology system.  Lot of research is still going on in every walk of life. It seems that the mode & technique of research in the ancient time must  have been quite different from  what we have today

Hi Mucoid degeneration of ACL does make it weaker than a normal ACL. But not so weak as to prevent you from playing. So you may continue playing without worrying. Generally, ACL mucoid degeneration does not require surgery...so there is no question of recovery.
