I m into sales & mktg last 15 yrs and often will be on travel and using phone is mandatory for me as most of the clients need to be connected irrespective of time factor, which has really caused worries to my wife and daughter.. they often irritated when i attend calls post office hours say post 7pm since they want to spend time with them and not to divert into any.. this often ends up in argument and ends up in mis understanding between us. I use my phone and social media mostly for office purposes and very little for my personal chat. I became so addicted madly with office work and always think abt something to improve my ability to perform better to over come competition from fellow colleagues ..i m 55 yrs old and may be having another 4-5 yrs service and post that, want to have peace living life.. i lost interest on work nowadays due to politics in office and often get dejected since no escalation on achieving higher position or power given by mgmt inspite of performing at best.

Hi
At this stage of your life and career, what you are experiencing is very real and deeply understandable. You have spent nearly 15 years giving your time, energy, and mental space to your work, often at the cost of your personal life, not because you wanted to neglect your family, but because you were trying to be responsible, competitive, and secure their future. Over time, this constant mental pressure to perform, stay connected, and prove yourself has slowly turned into emotional exhaustion, where work no longer gives satisfaction and family interactions become strained. Your wife and daughter’s irritation is not rejection of you, but a silent expression of wanting your emotional presence more than your professional success.
At the same time, facing office politics and lack of recognition despite sincere effort can deeply hurt self-esteem and create a sense of helplessness and bitterness. This emotional conflict between duty towards work and longing for peace—can lead to loss of interest, irritability, and inner emptiness. Therapy can help you rebuild emotional balance, set healthy boundaries with work, reconnect with your family without guilt, and prepare mentally for the next phase of life with confidence and calmness. You deserve peace after years of hard work, and it is possible to achieve it with the right emotional support. Take therapy. You can connect with me on nine two six six seven two six zero six five.

Thanks for sharing this. It seems like you’ve spent many years carrying a strong sense of responsibility toward both your work and your family’s future. When a job demands constant availability, the phone often stops feeling like a choice and starts feeling like a necessity, which can become deeply exhausting over time. Your wife and daughter may not be upset about the phone itself as much as they are missing your time and presence. At the same time, you may feel stuck trying to meet work demands while also wanting to be there for your family. Being pulled in both directions like this can understandably lead to burnout.
Next Steps
Seek professional help- therapy and counselling and help you set healthy boundaries, help with emotional regulation as well as improve communication skills that can help you cater through the challenges faced at work as well as family front.
you appear to be experiencing work-life imbalance with burnout, not addiction. For many years, your identity, self-worth, and security have been strongly tied to performance and availability, which is common in long sales careers. However, the cost is emotional distance from your family and growing inner dissatisfaction—especially now that rewards, recognition, and growth have plateaued.
At this stage of life, your mind is signaling a need to shift priorities. The conflict at home reflects unmet emotional needs on both sides, not lack of love. Gradually setting boundaries for work calls, reconnecting intentionally with family, and redefining success beyond office politics can restore peace. Psychological support can help you transition meaningfully into this next phase of life.
Consult psychiatrist to know and explore urself
You need daily supportive guidance by psychiatrist at least for a week to get through your problems, these problems will not be solved in one go,but discussing with psychiatrist, you can be helped to come mid way where there will be minimum friction in your daily life.
Next Steps
Consult psychiatrist to go through this phase and come out of conflicts
Hello Sir, As I understand all your concern, you are worried about your phone use and family conflicts. And having irritation and doubting yourself. Its good to have a consultation with psychiatrist so you can handle it more effectively and you can have a better life.
Balancing demanding work responsibilities with family expectations can become emotionally exhausting, especially when professional roles require constant availability through mobile communication. Over time, this can create conflict between personal and professional priorities, leading to stress, frustration, and reduced satisfaction both at work and at home. Feeling disappointed about career progression and workplace dynamics can further add to emotional strain. Recognising these concerns and seeking guidance reflects thoughtful self-awareness and responsibility towards both family and personal well-being.
Next Steps
A structured discussion with a mental health professional can help you explore stress management, work-life boundaries, communication strategies within the family, and coping approaches for workplace disappointment. Counselling can help you plan realistic adjustments that allow you to remain professionally effective while improving personal satisfaction and relationships.
Health Tips
Sudden or rigid withdrawal from work responsibilities may increase stress rather than reduce it. Gradual boundary setting, planned technology use, and clear communication with family members often produce better long-term outcomes. Professional guidance can help you develop practical and sustainable strategies.
Good morning,
I think you should take a proper consultation and discuss about your issues so that further evaluation can be done and a good management plan can be worked out for you
