Not necessary to take in long run. You can taper the dose, stop it and observe b.p. and pulse rate for 4 to 5 days, if normal, no relapse of headache, stop it.
Those 2 medicines are good for the migraine prevention. If you have benefited from the tablets, you should continue for a long time.Avoid triggering factors that causes headache.
Propranolol (Indreal) and amitriptyline (tryptomer) are both standard medicines for migraine prevention. Taking them together for several months is common once headaches are under control. The things to watch over a long course are a slow pulse or low blood pressure from propranolol, and dry mouth, weight gain or drowsiness from amitriptyline.
Next Steps
Since your symptoms have settled, ask your prescribing doctor about tapering the dose slowly instead of stopping on your own. A pulse and blood pressure check at that visit would help too.
Health Tips
Don't stop either tablet suddenly without guidance. See a doctor soon if your pulse feels unusually slow, you feel faint, or your mood changes.
