Medication side effects
Atomoxetine was prescribed to me to treat adhd. I took it along with fludac and it caused various side effects like high bp, pulse rate change, anger, aggression and irritability. Can the side effects of atomoxetine be nullified or stabilized by combining it with another ssri like sertraline or fluvoxamine ? Or even desvenlafaxine/venlafaxine? Please answer

Fluoxetine can increase the amount of atomoxetine in your body, which can cause side effects like dizziness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, sleep disturbances, and heart palpitations. There are other antidepressants with least interactions.

First normally ADHD occurs in young patients. On the basis of your age, are you having adult ADHD? Since how long you are on Atomoxetine ? And when you started fludac for what issues ?

Fluoxetine increases levels of atomoxetine by reducing its metabolism. So there are higher chances of side effects of atomoxetine. You should reduce the dose of atomoxetine in consultation with your Psychiatrist. Sertraline is less problematic than fluoxetine or paroxetine, if combined with atomoxetine.

ADHD is mainly divided into 2 subtypes - inattention and hyperactivity, given your age, it would be possibly inattention type. Given the lack of information of dosage duration of starting atomoxetine, it is difficult to determine the cause of side effects. Given its impact on norepinephrine levels, symptoms mentioned can be precipitated. Along with Fludac, again dosing and duration, drug drug interaction needs evaluation.

Sometimes tremors and other dose effects may happen , suppose u r facing any side effects then according to that we will augment with other agent there is no thukb rule that always adjuvant with sertraline or fluoxamine
