I have a gynecomastia problem. One side of my chest has become enlarged and painful. When I touch it, there is pain , but other there is no size difference there. In the past, I used steroids for bodybuilding, but I have since stopped and completed post-cycle therapy (PCT). A year later, I am now experiencing pain and an increase in size. Is there any treatment for this?

Dear,
Your gynecomastia is likely due to a hormonal imbalance caused by past anabolic steroid use. Steroids can suppress natural testosterone levels while increasing estrogen activity, leading to breast tissue growth. Even after stopping steroid use and completing post-cycle therapy (PCT), hormonal fluctuations can persist, causing delayed symptoms such as pain and enlargement.
Possible Treatments:
1. Lifestyle Modifications:
Maintain a healthy weight to reduce excess fat, which can convert hormones and worsen gynecomastia.
Focus on a balanced diet rich in whole foods to support natural hormone regulation.
Engage in regular strength training and cardiovascular exercise to maintain hormonal balance.
Avoid alcohol, processed foods, and substances that may contribute to hormonal imbalances.
2. Supportive Care:
Applying a cold compress may help reduce pain and inflammation.
Wearing compression garments can provide physical and psychological comfort.
3. Medical Consultation:
Please consult a doctor who may recommend hormonal testing (testosterone, estrogen, and other markers) to assess underlying imbalances.
Imaging (ultrasound ) may be considered if the enlargement is significant or asymmetrical. If needed, may plan for medical management if condition warrant it.
Hi. This is an unwanted side effect of using steroids. The pain can be handled by using pain medications but to reduce the gynaecomastia you will need a surgery. But to confirm this you will need a physical examination. Contact Carna Health Centre Nagarbhavi Bangalore for a consultation
