Mild lower abdominal pain at 5 weeks of pregnancy can be common and may be due to:
• Implantation and uterine stretching
• Hormonal changes
• Gas or constipation
• Corpus luteum cyst (normal early pregnancy finding)
However, since the pain is on one side (left), we must also rule out ectopic pregnancy, especially if pain is persistent or increasing.
Please consult your gynecologist for an early ultrasound scan to confirm that the pregnancy is inside the uterus.
Go to emergency immediately if you have:
• Severe or worsening pain
• Vaginal bleeding
• Dizziness or fainting
• Shoulder pain
If pain is mild and there is no bleeding, it is often normal — but do get checked for reassurance.
