Lower abdominal heaviness
I am 39 years old and have mild cervical spondylosis for around 9 years. Recently, I started doing Cat-Cow, glute bridges, dead bug, pelvic tilts and walking. These exercises seem to relieve my neck stiffness, but I have started experiencing lower abdominal heaviness and a stone-like feeling in my lower tummy. Other symptoms: Intermittent heaviness and burning sensation in the lower abdomen. Passing stools 3–4 times daily, sometimes loose. Some relief after passing stools and urine. Discomfort comes and goes. My expected period date is the 9th. I also have a weakly positive ANA (1:100) and am worried whether it is related. Could these exercises cause abdominal or pelvic muscle strain? Could this be related to my periods, bowel issues or any gynaecological condition? Should I stop these exercises for now?

1. Your symptoms may be due to premenstrual changes, bowel disturbance, or muscular strain. 2. New abdominal exercises can sometimes cause temporary muscle tightness or discomfort. 3. Stop dead bugs, pelvic tilts and glute bridges for a few days. 4. Continue gentle walking if it does not worsen your symptoms. 5. Avoid strenuous abdominal exercises until the discomfort settles. 6. Keep yourself adequately hydrated. 7. Eat light, regular meals and avoid foods that trigger loose stools or bloating. 8. Note whether symptoms improve after passing stool or urine. 9. Your increased bowel frequency may contribute to the lower abdominal discomfort. 10. Premenstrual changes can also cause pelvic heaviness, bloating and cramps. 11. A weakly positive ANA alone does not mean you have an autoimmune disease. 12. ANA should always be interpreted along with your symptoms and examination. 13. If symptoms persist or recur, please consult a physician or gynecologist. 14. An abdominal or pelvic examination may help identify the cause. 15. Your doctor may recommend urine testing or an ultrasound if clinically indicated. 16. If pregnancy is possible and your period is delayed, take a pregnancy test. 17. Seek urgent medical attention if the pain becomes severe or rapidly worsens. 18. Fever, persistent vomiting, fainting, or significant weakness require prompt evaluation. 19. Blood in stool or urine, heavy bleeding, or difficulty passing urine/stool also needs urgent assessment. 20. Please do not ignore persistent symptoms; an in-person consultation is recommended if they do not settle within a few days.

Lower abdominal heaviness that eases after passing stool or urine points to a bowel or pelvic-muscle cause, not a gynaecological problem on its own. New core exercises like glute bridges and pelvic tilts can genuinely strain that area while your body adjusts. Since your period is due on the 9th, some heaviness now can also be a normal premenstrual pattern. A weakly positive ANA at this low titre, by itself, usually isn't significant.
Next Steps
Pause the glute bridges and pelvic tilts for a week to see if the heaviness settles, while gentle walking and Cat-Cow should be fine to continue. If the heaviness carries on past your period, a pelvic ultrasound would help rule out a gynaecological cause directly.
Health Tips
Please see your gynaecologist sooner if the pain turns one-sided or sharp, or if you notice any bleeding between periods.
