Liver related parameter
My wife was done with annual health check up in routine course, however, in Liver function test, AST (SGOT)/ALT (SGPT) ratio is 1.6 which is above desirable value i.e. <1. However, she is non alcoholic, no discomfort or any other liver related issue, and when I search for remarks in Google it shows severe liver issue of it is 1.6 i.e. cirrhosis etc. Hence please suggest me shall we proceed for any other checks or scan. The below are the other values for your reference sir/madam. AST (SGOT) : 15.9 U/L ALT (SGPT) : 9.89 U/L AST (SGOT)/ALT (SGPT): 1.6 Bilirubin: 0.45; albumin: 4.08, protein :6.09 Except AST (SGOT)/ALT (SGPT) ratio all other are normal only.

I want to reassure you that according to these results, Her AST,ALT,BILIRUBIN are completely normal. Although, ALT/AST ratio may appear slightly elevated but it’s not concerning as individual levels are normal. According to your information, she doesn’t have any signs and symptoms and it was routine check up.
Next Steps
Please don’t worry, it is insignificant. No further investigation is required at this stage. You can repeat LFT’s yearly.
Health Tips
If she develops any symptoms like abdominal pain, yellowish discolouration of eyes or skin then it would be wise to repeat the tests and get an abdominal ultrasound done.

We should not be slaves to Mathematics. The absolute value of SGOT and SGPT, both are normal. Then why worry about the ratio ? The LFT report is normal

Hello, Thank you for providing the detailed report and background regarding your wife's recent health check-up. First and foremost — please be reassured: The AST/ALT ratio of 1.6 may appear elevated when taken in isolation, but in your wife's case, it's not clinically concerning. Here's why: 🔍 Understanding the Lab Values: AST (SGOT): 15.9 U/L ALT (SGPT): 9.89 U/L AST/ALT Ratio: 1.6 Total Bilirubin: 0.45 mg/dL Albumin: 4.08 g/dL Total Protein: 6.09 g/dL All of these values are within the normal range, and in fact, AST and ALT are both on the lower side of normal. 💡 Why the Ratio Alone Isn’t a Red Flag: The AST/ALT ratio is most meaningful only when both enzymes are elevated. In your wife's case, both values are low-normal, and the higher ratio is a mathematical result, not a clinical abnormality. Conditions like cirrhosis or alcoholic liver disease typically show markedly elevated liver enzymes along with other abnormal liver markers and symptoms — none of which are present here. ✅ No Need for Immediate Worry or Further Testing Since: Your wife has no liver-related symptoms No history of alcohol intake Normal liver function markers (bilirubin, albumin, protein) This looks like a normal and healthy liver profile. 🔄 My Recommendation: No additional tests are required right now. A routine LFT can be repeated in 6–12 months as part of regular monitoring. If there's any personal or family history of liver disease, or for peace of mind, an abdominal ultrasound can be considered — but it's not medically necessary at this point. Please don’t let search results on the internet alarm you — lab values always need to be interpreted in the full clinical context, not just in isolation. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss this further or if there are any other concerns. Warm regards, Dr. Romain Rajan

Ast/alt ratio is significant if only these enzymes are elevated.Your liver enzymes values are normal, you don't need to be concerned.

Both liver enzymes are actually normal, just very low, so the ratio looks a bit high on paper. Since all other liver tests are fine, there’s no liver problem. Just stay healthy and repeat the test after a few months for reassurance.

Normal liver enzymes. The AST/ALT ratio being >1 is not clinically significant here because the enzymes are not elevated. No evidence of liver injury.
Next Steps
please reassure her liver functions are absolutely normal NO need of further investigation at his point of time
Health Tips
kindly connect if she develops any symptoms or her lab reports changes in future checkups

Yes LFT has mild changes, not too severe. Do take care of diet and avoid fatty fried and junk food and red meat too. Include at least an hour of some activity.
Next Steps
Get an USG abdomen to rule out fatty liver. If that is also normal then there is nothing to worry about.
Health Tips
Try sharing the reports of USG here online

This is an absolutely normal liver function test. There is no need to interpret AST and ALT ratio when they are all within normal limits. I reassure you, you do not need to search for these things on Google, you will become more afraid of things which google can't interpret itself.
Next Steps
i reassure you this report is absolutely normal and nothing needs to be done.
