Go for surgery if you have pain or instability . To enjoy a sporty lifestyle, you need a stable and reliable knee. Try conservative measures for 3-4 weeks, if there is no improvement then you should go with surgery .

I suppose u already have an MRI advised by an Orthopedician which has revealed ACL tear.. Need to know if there is still a swelling of the knee, extent of ACL tear, any associated ligament injury which needs attention.. Then decide upon treatment..

U need to support ur knee. Make it clear how much tear do u have. If it is not complete tear then support knee joint and also use ice on it if u have swelling. Then also visit to the Physiotherapist.
