Jaundice - newborn
My daughter is one month old. She had jaundice when she was born. I can still see little yellowness in her eyes. How long does it take to recover. She was not given phototherapy as the doctor said it wasn't much. Does this affect weight gain or growth?

There are various causes for prolonged jaundice...only yellowness of eyes are not important in this age...kindly assess how much is it..incase it is significant for the age ..we need to look out for hypothyroidism or urinary infection or hepatitis which may affect the growth..incase the jaundice on blood tests is not significant it won't affect the growth of the baby

Neonatal jaundice won't affect weight gain or growth if it's physiological and within limits. Please mention stool and urine colour. Blood reports of serum bilirubin total and direct will be helpful.

I think if you still have doubt over your baby having jaundice, then you should get her investigated for Bilirubin levels in her blood. High bilirubin levels are not good for the baby as it can cause brain damage. So my advice for you is to go see a pediatrician and check her bilirubin levels.

Hello, looks like your baby is having prolonged jaundice. Please mention the colour of urine and stool.Baby needs to be investigated for prolonged jaundice. No need to panic by seeing the jaundice alone which in some cases might be due to uncomplicated conditions like breast milk jaundice. Please consult pediatrician to discuss regarding the blood investigations
