I started getting itching inside my penis. I have been experiencing pain too. Itching is on the top part of penis. While peeing and after peeing it burns sometimes. It's happening since past 5 days. I had got UTI in March but the doctor said it's because of some infection in the urine.
What may be the reason for it and which doctor should I visit a dermat or general physician?

Dear Patient,
Your symptoms of itching inside the penis, burning during and after urination, and discomfort lasting several days are strongly suggestive of a condition known as urethritis (inflammation of the urethra). Here's what you need to know:
1. Possible Causes
The most common causes in men are:
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
Other organisms include Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Trichomonas vaginalis, and occasionally herpes simplex virus (HSV)
2. Symptoms Consistent With Urethritis
Burning or pain while urinating (dysuria).
Urethral discomfort and itching.
Symptoms often occur without frequent urination but with discharge or pain
3. Diagnosis
A proper diagnosis includes:
Urine tests (early-morning, first-voided urine for NAATs – Nucleic Acid Amplification Tests).
Urethral swab to detect signs of infection.
Examination for mucopurulent discharge or presence of pus cells under the microscope
4. Treatment Approach
Immediate treatment is recommended even before test results if urethritis is suspected.
5. Whom to Consult
You should consult a general physician first. Based on tests, they may refer you to:
A dermatologist (for STI-related skin/genital issues),
A urologist (if urinary or prostate involvement is suspected).
Note: Please avoid self-medication and refrain from sexual contact until your infection is treated. If you have a partner, they may also need treatment to prevent reinfection.
Wishing you a quick recovery.
