Hello Doctor,
I am currently pregnant around 11 weeks. I have a past history of urticaria (hives) about 8 years ago.
Since yesterday, I am experiencing severe itching all over my body along with red, raised rashes that appear in patches/lines and keep changing location. The itching is present throughout the day and night.
Today I consulted a doctor and was given an injection for allergy and prescribed Lacto Calamine lotion, but the itching is still continuing.
I would like to know:
1. Can I take a safe antihistamine tablet during pregnancy (like cetirizine)?
2. Do I need any further treatment or tests?
3. Is this condition harmful to my baby?
Please advise on safe treatment options.
Thank you.

This looks like acute urticaria (hives), which can flare in pregnancy and is usually not harmful to the baby 👍
Antihistamine: Yes, cetirizine/loratadine are generally considered safe in pregnancy, but take only after your doctor’s advice.
Relief: Continue calamine, add cold compress, avoid triggers (heat, spicy food, stress).
If severe: You may need a short course of prescription meds (as advised by your doctor).
Tests: Usually not needed unless persistent/recurrent.
