It depends on the type of mental illness your fiancée’s brother has. Schizophrenia/bipolar disorder/ OCD and anxiety disorders/ depression all have different biological basis. An example is: if both parents have schizophrenia, the chance of offspring having schizophrenia is 50% . If one parent has schizophrenia, chance in offspring is only 10%. Since your fiancée is not suffering from any such issue and assuming you arnt as well, the chance is extremely low to none for your offspring to have any major hereditary mental illness.
However i advice you to go for genetic counselling if you are worried about this.
Yes there is always a genetic etiology to most illnesses but you need to explain what mental illness he suffers from , there is something called as genetic counselling which can be helpful so rather than speculating undergo a genetic counselling and genetic study
All the best
Partly it is heritable. It differs from illness to illness. If a family member has it shows genetic propensity to get but not definetly that the person will get the illness. Again there are various factors involved. Good luck

Depends on the mental illness. Genetics plays a role definitely, but not likely that everyone will inherit the illness.
