Iron supplement postpartum
I was prescribed Orofer XR during pregnancy. Now i am 4.5 months postpartum. Can I start taking the tablet? I was asked to continue iron and calcium supplements during discharge but i didnt. I have started to notice a lit of hairfall. Please advice. Can I also use raclofer sachet as it gave me less stomach discomfort?

Hi! Congratulations new mamma! 🥳. It is certainly advisable to take Iron supplements after delivery but at 4.5 months post partum it may not be essential. Are you breast feeding your little one? Have your periods resumed? Taking iron supplements don't harm. You can't have an overload as the excess iron gets excreted in the stools. Maybe you can take your preferred iron for 45 days and then get your haemoglobin checked. If within normal range you can stop. Hairfall may not always be due to iron deficiency. It is natural during pregnancy and childbirth and usually normal hair density is restored soon. All the best, ☺️

Yes you can use orofer xr supplement or livogen  iron supplements  once daily till breastfeeding is continued its best to be taken in morning at 11am but stop raclofer sachect at night and calcium supplement of 1000mg ( 2tabs ) in the afternoon . At night take stool softener like lactulose syrup for 2 weeks and have healthy  diet with plenty of fluids for hydration .
