Insulin as 1st line treatment?
My wife recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Hba1c is 12.2, fasting level 242 mg/dl. During routine check up 3 months ago levels were normal. Doctor now started the treatment with Insulin injection along with metformin+glimepiride and metformin+vildagliptin tablets. Should the treatment be initiated with insulin? Can it be stopped once normal values are maintained? Will Insulin as 1st line of treatment have adverse effects in long term?

As Hba1c is high insulin has to be initiated. As sugars normalised then insulin can be stopped and iral tablets has to be continued. If lifestyle changes, diet Modification and physical activity adopted then tablets wil suffice..
