Insomnia while having depression
I was diagnosed with depression a few days back and was prescribed medicines for the same. I haven't started taking meds yet but I'm having insomnia. I have slept for only 2hrs since the last 3 days. Is it normal for a person having depression?? What will help me with insomnia??

I want to first acknowledge the step you have taken to seek support. I see that you were diagnosed with depression and have been prescribed medication for the same. It certainly is overwhelming to navigate through emotional concerns. Depression may many times be accompanied with changes in sleep pattern, appetite, and some other aspects of life. It can be beneficial to seek counseling support in addition to medication. A counselor will psychoeducate you about depression and its symptoms. They'll also help you learn how to navigate through this distress and stabilize your routine. Within the sessions, you'll receive a safe and non-judgemental space to express yourself. I hope this helps.

Hi there, A detailed medical and psychiatric history is always needed for every patient. In addition,a detailed mental status examination is also recommended for every patient to make a diagnosis and the management of the case accordingly. As per your description and query, yes in Depression sleep impairment can happen. And Depression can happen to any person.Sometimes that happens in response to a traumatic/stress like situation or can occur even without that. Medications and psychological interventions are likely to yield good results.
Next Steps
Be positive in your thoughts. Get the advice from a mental health professional. Early intervention is always better in every case.
