Most sleep medications are habit forming including Zolpidem and Lorazepam. A careful assessment for various reasons causing decreased sleep (like depression, anxiety, pain, disturbed routine, stress, medical problems) is required so that all these factors can be addressed and then sleep medications can be tapered without relapse to sleep problems.
