When it comes to determining if a tooth or gum is infected, a thorough examination by a dentist is crucial. However, here are some signs and symptoms that may indicate an infection:
Tooth infection (periapical infection):
Severe toothache or throbbing pain
Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
Swelling or tenderness around the tooth
Discoloration of the tooth
Pus or discharge around the tooth
Bad breath or an unpleasant taste in the mouth
Gum infection (periodontal infection):
Red, swollen, or tender gums
Bleeding gums, especially during brushing or flossing
Receding gums or exposed tooth roots
Persistent bad breath
Loose teeth or changes in the way your teeth fit together when biting
Pus between the gums and teeth
Jaw bone infection is a serious condition and is typically accompanied by severe pain, swelling, and difficulty in opening the mouth. It may be associated with other symptoms such as fever and malaise. If you suspect a jaw bone infection, it is important to seek immediate dental or medical attention.
While dental X-rays are a useful tool in diagnosing dental issues, they may not always reveal the full extent of an infection. Sometimes, further diagnostic tests such as a CT scan or a dental examination may be necessary to accurately assess the presence of an infection.
If you are experiencing severe pain and inflammation in your gum despite being told by your dentist that it appears normal, it is recommended to seek a second opinion or consult with a dental specialist, such as an endodontist or a periodontist, who can provide a more detailed evaluation and diagnosis.

Having pain and inflammation is not ok...your teeth in relation to 46 have lost its crown part where the pulp is exposed...you have pain and inflammation is due to the infection of the exposed pulp..pls do check on a dentist for medication..where your infection is healed and then it can be proceeded for further treatment..
