If there is infection to the root of the tooth, you need to get it treated. then get a crown placed over it. if the tooth cannot be saved, then you can get it extracted. then you can go for fixed prosthesis or implants for replacement of missing tooth.
You should get an X-ray done of the tooth and if possible, get the cavity filled up by the dentist, and if X-ray reveals that restoration is not possible, then get the tooth extracted.
