Hi , Gum recedes when the bone underneath it which supports the tooth is weakening and receding. They may happen due to multiple reasons like presence of calculus ( calcified deposits) or traumatic bite etc. The swelling can be due to infection at gums. Please consult a periodontist.
Next Steps
consult a dentist nearby ,preferably  a periodontist.
