First of all, the quality of hearing perceived by a cochlear implant we is much inferior to that of a hearing aid! The implantee however has no other choice as the hearing is so bad in both ears that even the most powerful hearing aids cannot help him/her! The most sophisticated Cochlear Implants have 22 hearing electrodes which mean that while a normal human can perceive sounds from 20Hz to 20000Hz frequencies and can differentiate every 20Hz change in sound frequencies, the unfortunate Cochlear Implantee hears only 22 different sounds in this entire range. This is the reason why we doctor's usually discourage persons who have gone deaf recently from going in for Cochlear Implants as after spending a fortune on the entire process when it is finally switched on, he will be very depressed by the quality of hearing perceived by using the implant. In fact he needs months of speech therapy to finally understand speech as the sounds are so different from what his brain was used to perceiving before he/she went deaf.
Next Steps
What you need is a bone conduction hearing aid to left ear. This will take the sound incident on the Left Ear and amplify it and conduct it through your skull bones to the only functioning cochlear - the right Cochlea!
Health Tips
Please go to a good ENT Hospital in Chennai and discuss this option with them.
