Hearing loss since childhood may be developmental, due to childhood infections, due to injury etc. Genetic causes for hearing since childhood is not that common and can be identified by evaluation of type of hearing loss and genetic evaluation sometimes may be required. Genetic conditions if at all present need not transmit to your child always.
Next Steps
Consult nearby ENT specialist for confirmation of diagnosis and you can go for genetic counseling if genetic condition is diagnosed
