Your HbA1c of 7.4% is higher than the ideal target for planning pregnancy. For women with diabetes, it is safest to aim for an HbA1c below 6.5% before conception to reduce the risk of miscarriage, birth defects, and other complications.
Next Steps:
✔️ Work with your doctor to adjust your diet, exercise, and medication if needed to bring sugars under better control.
✔️ Do regular blood sugar monitoring.
✔️ Take folic acid daily (at least 400–800 mcg).
✔️ Get your eyes, kidneys, and thyroid checked before planning.
✔️ Discuss a safe pregnancy plan with your endocrinologist/diabetologist.
Helpful Tip:
Planning ahead for good sugar control before and during pregnancy helps you and your baby stay healthy. Don’t worry — with good care, you can have a safe pregnancy.
