Have to do an MRI but have metal crown
Hello,
I got a root canal done on one of my teeth and got a metal crown fixed (made with nickel, chromium or cobalt) in July 2021. I have to undergo an MRI (Pelvis, Spine and Hip Joint) next week. Should I be concerned? Will the crown get pulled during MRI screening? Should I get the crown removed just to be safe?

Hello,
Yes for an MRI you’ll have to remove your metal crown. However , there are other alternatives like zirconia crown which are much more aesthetic and need not be removed while undergoing an MRI

Hello dear,
Hope you are doing good. You should definitely go for removal of the crown. MRI is as powerful as attracting the wheelchair. You can move to better options like porcelain, zirconia crowns which will be more aesthetic and easy for any other general diagnostics like MRI.

You need an alternative of MRI. Consult your doctor
Choose ceramic, porcelain, or composite materials for future dental work.
It may cause problem during MRI
If a dental crown contains magnetic material, there is a chance that it could literally be pulled off the tooth. Obviously, this can be painful and dangerous for a patient undergoing an MRI.
