Sharp Shooting type pain are usually associated with nerve exposure. You may not notice any decay from outside. Sometimes the decay starts from proximal areas and reaches the nerve which cannot be seen from outside. You need to head to a dental surgeon to get a x ray done to rule out decay issue. If it’s plaque and calculus related gum swelling it may need oral prophylaxis even sub gingival scaling.
