Gums becoming black coloured
My right sided loower gums started becoming blackish..no pain no swelling..what may be the reason? Plz help

Blackish gums can be due to - 1. It can be blackish due to melanin pigmentation, which would have been there since childhood but you would have noticed recently - this is normal and hence just observe this over a period of few weeks and see if this is increasing or not. If increasing, you may contact me immediately. Am from Bangalore and a gum and laser specialist. I am telling you this, because you have said there are no other issues with it. 2. If blackish discoloration is increasing over a period of time it can be due to some medications like - Iron supplements, oral contraceptive pills etc. 3. It may be due to a silver filling that was done next to the gums 4. It can be due to coal dust,  smoking habit or due to exposure to metal dust in atmosphere 5. It can be due to some general health problems too. 6. Can be due to hormonal changes too There are so many such causes.

Hello The change in colours of gums can be normal or may be due to some infection of gums or tooth. It will not be possible to guide without examining it clinically. Kindly visit your nearby dentist and get it properly examined. You can upload some photographs for better clarity.

Hello There are many reasons for this starting from a simple gum or tooth infection. Will be better to diagnose after clinical examination.
