Warm saline rinse is a very effective treatment for swollen gums provided you do it well. You can also take mouthwashes like chlorhexidine along with it.
There is no medication to cure the gum inflammation. Even warm saline gargles will only reduce the inflammation temporarily which is bound to reappear unless the cause of that information is treated. The most common cause of gum inflammation is the presence of hard deposits called as calculus which cannot be removed by tooth brushing and will require a session of tooth cleaning by a procedure called scaling. You should go for this procedure as soon as possible so that the further damage to the gums and the underlying bone is prevented and your symptoms are treated adequately. Post operative maintenance by meticulous toothbrushing will help in maintaining the results for a longer duration.
