I have quit my IT job 2.5 years ago and since that my forgetfulness had increased, i am forgetting names of common things, my confidence had depleted. I feel lost. Is this the onset of alzimers/dementia? What kind of counseling / doctor do i need?

Hello Friend, Good that you are seeking a help here. Forgetfulness, loss of memory, feelings low, negativity etc are symptoms of Anxiety. If your mind is pre occupied with anxious thoughts about some past or future events with fear or unsecured feelings, then you tend to ignore the things around you.
No worries, it's quite possible for people like you who were busy all the while during your professional careers and now finding hard to accommodate the home life.
As a first step, take a psychology counselling support to assess yourself and explore the reason or root cause for such anxiety. I am sure you will be able to see a different prepective about yourself and about your problems.
