Food allergy testing is not a routine test and should only be considered in certain conditions. Many people often get confused with allergies and intolerance but the causes and management are different.
Here are some points for you to understand:
- Testing is recommended only in situations when a person experiences immediate symptoms after consuming a particular food such as itching, swelling of lips or face, wheezing, breathlessness, vomiting, or severe diarrhea.
- Common methods of testing include blood tests and skin prick tests both of them are done by a specialist. An elimination and reintroduction diet also helps understanding the cause.
- Most acidity, bloating, gas, IBS, or gastritis symptoms are not caused by food allergies. These are usually due to food intolerances (such as lactose intolerance), gut sensitivity, stress, irregular eating patterns, or excess caffeine and spicy foods.
Food allergy testing should only be done when indicated.

**Food Allergy Test â When is it needed?**
We do food allergy testing **only when you get repeated immediate symptoms after a particular food**, such as:
⢠Rashes / itching
⢠Swelling of lips or eyes
⢠Throat itching
⢠Vomiting immediately after food
⢠Sudden stomach cramps
⢠Loose motion every time after same food
⢠Breathing difficulty after food
If these symptoms happen again and again with the **same food**, allergy testing is needed.
**For acidity, gas, bloating, indigestion â mostly it is food intolerance, not allergy.**
This is usually due to milk intolerance, wheat sensitivity, chana/rajma intolerance, oily/spicy food, irregular eating habits, or gastritis.
**How to test?**
⢠Skin Prick Test (SPT) â most accurate
⢠Or Specific IgE blood test
⢠For intolerance: elimination diet (stop the food for 2 weeks and recheck)
Food allergy is rare.
Most gastric problems are not allergiesâthey are acidity or intolerance.
If you are not able to find the treatment for digestive issue problem after trying long term medication and multiple diet
This will help better to come to a point what to take and what not to take
