Folic acid for a longer period
I'm taking folic acid 5 mg from the last 2 months as prenatal, can I continue for longer periods as 9 months or 11 months. Taking low dose folic acid 400 mcg for 11 months is it safe?

A higher dose of folic acid is usually given early in pregnancy for extra protection against neural tube defects, mainly through the first trimester. Continuing it for 9 to 11 months isn't typically needed once that window passes, since the standard prenatal dose is usually enough for the rest of the pregnancy.
Next Steps
Ask your obstetrician at your next visit when to switch down to the standard prenatal dose. The right timing depends on why the higher dose was started for you.
Health Tips
Staying on the higher dose a little longer isn't known to cause harm, but please don't change your own dose without checking with your doctor first.
