It happens sometimes that when I go to sleep at night and close my eyes and am about to feel asleep with a sudden sense of fear/sensation comes up and I am not able to sleep. It happens every time I am trying to sleep and it does not allow me to sleep. Few years back I had acid reflux complain and similiar things were happening like felt like something was moving up through my chest and then sleep obstruction with the passing of gas, doctor prescribed medications and EXCERAFT at SOS. Now I do not feel movement in my chest but this sleep obstruction happened like twice in 2 months and it troubles me for 3-4 days. Is this acid reflux or something else.

This could be hypnic jerks or sleep-related anxiety. Since you have history of acid reflux and recent sleep obstruction episodes, reflux could be contributing. Continue prescribed GERD medications, elevate head of bed, avoid late meals. Practice relaxation techniques before sleep. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult for sleep study evaluation.

I understand your concern in this matter and you are right to do so as sleep is very vital for healing and relieving stress and fatigue accumulated throughout the day
I will try my best to help you regarding this
Based on the history you have provided you seem to be convinced it is acid reflux
My question for you is?
How much time after dinner do you lie down?
Do you experience heart burn (burning sensation in the chest) or the food content coming back to your mouth with a sour taste after you have gulped it?
These questions can provide more certainty as to whether acid reflux workup needs to be done or not
However sleep is an activity which has many reasons for disturbance which can range from psychiatric causes (anxiety, mental distress etc.) to Respiratory and Cardiac issues, diet as well as exercise
My advice to you is to go for one on one consultation so that the physician can take detailed history, examination and the necessary investigation to diagnose your problem and provide the necessary treatment and regimen
I hope this advice gives you the much needed insight
Wishing you a speedy recovery 🙏🏻

It does not seem like acid reflux.
It is usually can be a sleep-onset anxiety jolt — a sudden fear that comes right when you are falling asleep.
It can happen due to stress, tiredness, or overthinking and usually lasts 2–3 days.
Avoid tea/coffee after 4 PM
Do slow breathing for 5 minutes before bed
Don’t force sleep
If it becomes frequent, then consider an evaluation with a psychiatrist.

What's your BMI or weight?? If you're overweight or obese, try to lose 3-5kg ... It'll relieve your acid reflux a bit... After that you can analyse your problem...
This Can be due to variety of underlying issues
1.most probably anxiety /stress issues...need to consult psychiatrist for this
2.can be due to heart problem
3.or can be due to respiratory causes, sleep apnea etc...
Next Steps
you need proper evaluation and then treatment plan can be decided
Seems to me reflux disease is the main cause of your sleep disorder. Please eat atleast 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. Avoid heavy food at night. Do you tend to snore? Do u have history of repeated colds or stuffed nose? Anxiety disorder also needs to be ruled out.
Next Steps
Do visit a pulmonologist with experience in sleep medicine if possible
