Have been using lotepred-ls for my 9year old son from last 2-3 years on a regular basis for eye allergy. Is it safe? He is very prone to eye allergies, as every couple of months gets it. Doctor says he will grow out if it around 11-12. Please help.

Lotepred is used only for initial releive of symptoms ..... generally for 1 month that too in tapering dose , later it should be shifted to olopatadine or if required combination of olopatadine and ketorolac.Avoid using lotepred continuously for v long duration.Get his eye check-up done every 6 months by ophthalmologist.

Hello
Prolonged use of steroid may cause increase in pressure
Try
A. Avoid rubbing eyes
B. Cold compresses
C. Use other antiallergic eyedrop like epinastine twice daily along with lubricating eyedrop like refresh tears
D. Cyclosporine eyedrop can be used as steroid sparing medicine
Such prolong use of steroids is not safe.
1st. Withdraw the steroid.
2nd. Get his IOP checked if it is ok then nothing to worry but if it is raised you will have to start antiglaucoma medicine.
3rd.try antiallergic e.g. olopatadine 2to3 times daily .
4th.Get atmospheric allergy test done .and avoid the allergens detected or get the vaccine if necessary.
Next Steps
motivate him to avoid Sun,dust and smoke.
Do cold compresses with ice.
Do not use lotepred continuously without dr recommendation. If it has to be continued for long pls get the eye pressure checked regularly as steroids are known to cause glaucoma due to high eye pressure
