Excess folic acid dosage
I am 24 weeks pregnant. Doctor suggested to continue 5 mg folic acid even after normal NT result. This is first pregnancy. Have been taking this dosage of folic acid right from the start. No history of diabetes, NTD etc. or any other condition requiring a high dosage of this medication. Another doctor recently mentioned it's too high and should have been stopped by 12 weeks as iron tablets with 1.5 mg folic acid is also prescribed. This doctor also said such a high dosage is linked to development of autism in later post birth. I'm worried. Kindly guide.

This is still a matter of speculation not proven. However the general consensus is that being water soluble, excess folic acid will get excreted in urine and won't cause any harm.
