Difficult to answer in one question ... Needs surgery chemo and radiation to cure.. Depending on stage .. Early detection can prevent recurrence..

Esophagus divided into three.  Cervical esophagus, middle esophagus(thoracic), lower esophagus(gastroesophageal junction). Depending upon site treatment will be decided. Surgery is main treatment. Sometimes if the tumor is not operable(close to vital organ)  chemoradiotherapy will be considered. Early stage curable. Advanced stage cure rate will come down. Unfortunately most of patients diagnosed in the advanced stage. Now so many advanced treatment are available including advanced surgery technique, radiotherapy(3D), IMRT, chemotherapy,  immunotherapy, targeted therapy options are available
