Egg preservation with breast cancer
My sister has estrogen positive stage 2 breast cancer (only localised). Doctor has prescribed her to preserve her eggs before chemo but we are worried that the medicine for ovary stimulation will increase her estrogen levels and cause cancer to spread more. Is there usually a way around this- i.e to preserve eggs without raising estrogen levels? Her doctor did not seem concerned about this raise but we had some doubts.

There are very limited data available on this but for egg preservation patient certainly need hormone injection that will increase the estrogen level for 2-3 weeks in your body ..once cryopreservation is done doctor(Oncologist) can give you antiestrogen drug (for example letrozole etc) to lower the blood estrogen levels .it is very unlikely that this shorter duration of raised estrogen levels will impact the prognosis .. if you wish go for ova preservation and start the treatment of cancer ASAP.. Hope your query is solved..all the best .
