I have extracted this tooth #48 ten years ago. I did it with a dentist and not an oral surgeon.
I have got jaw pain in the lower jaw under ear area since 2020. Have seen many specialists and dentists. No diagnosis. Taken MRI and CT of jaw.
I posted in practo about my jaw pain. And one dentist told me that I have root stumps in 48 and need to be extracted.
None of the specialists (OMFS, TMJ,Endo) whom I have seen told me about this. This is a new information.
Is this root stump is the reason for my pain??
I have pain in 46 and 47 area. I have pain in 46 since this jaw pain started but cbct scan of 46 was clear. Did RCT many times and no relief. So pulled that tooth only because of this pain. Pulled it last July.
Still have pain in socket of 46 and now 47 starts to hurt.
Gum of 47 hurts so much and I used to jump and scream in pain when they probe that gum.Any periodontal issues in 47?
Is 48 has roots? And to be removed?
47 always get tartar irrespective of flossing.

It does look like a root stump in 48 region. Although it has to be clinically examined. But it does not look infected around the suspected area in the xray. The suspected root stump area may not be the cause of your pain. Your symptoms give an impression of bruxism/ myofacial pain, as your canine cusp tips are worn off as seen in the xray. There is widening of periodontal ligament surrounding the 47 and 45 region may be a cause for periodontitis or stress on the teeth. Only a clinical examination can be useful.
Next Steps
your description of symptoms require clinical examination. visit a dentist / periodontist to examine 47 and 45 region as there is widening of periodontal ligament surrounding the tooth. deep examination of the gums in 47 and 45 region required. also rule out bruxism / myofacial pain.
Health Tips
try warm salt water rinsing of mouth daily, also a water flosser can be useful to keep the interdental and gum areas clean .
