This condition is acute gastroenteritis. We have to assess dehydration and treat it with ORS or IV fluids.
As you have already consulted a doctor, I presume that dehydration is not severe and IV fluids not required.
Antibiotics should not be given in gastroenteritis unless there is blood in the stools
Duration of this disease is variable and may be more than 2 weeks. But number of stools and duration are not our primary concern.
Zinc 20 mg daily for 14 days
ORS as much as child likes
You haven't mentioned her age. So depending upon her age continue to breastfeed more frequently. If more than 6 months of age give solid food like khichri, ripe banana, salty lassi.
Next Steps
continue to assess dehydration by looking at lethargy, sunken eyes. frequency of urine, thirst, skin turgor
fever is generally due to dehydration and no medicine is required. however, if required, paracetamol may be given. dose 15 mg/kg/ per dose
if dehydration is worsening, report your doctor immediately.
investigation blood for CBC and U/E
Health Tips
breastfeeding is best for baby
antibiotics are not required
probiotics like sporlac are of unproven value, but may be given
