My 10 month baby was having diarrhea since last week. Had a h/o fever and vomiting(twice) also. After taking pediatrician's medicine (lactobacillus syrup, bacipro raspule), all things are improved except stool consistency. Loose motion frequency is reduced from 7-8 times to 2-3 times. But he is still having some loose stool- sometimes watery and sometimes semi thick - and not having previous semi solid stool consistency. His all 8 incisors are already erupted.
What could be the reason for this diarrhea not being improved?
Also, his solid food taking capacity is reduced. Hardly taking half a bowl of food for his 3 meals with very much of efforts.( previously taking full bowl), his sleep is also very much disturbed since 15 days.
What should be done for both?

Greetings
The persistent loose stools are likely due to secondary carbohydrate malabsorption, such as temporary lactose intolerance, which often follows a viral or bacterial stomach infection.During and after illness, the intestinal lining can remain fragile, leading to a lactase enzyme deficiency that prevents proper digestion of milk and can cause watery, frothy, or greenish stools for up to six weeks.Poor appetite for solid food is a normal biological response to recovery as the body diverts energy away from digestion toward healing, and forcing meals may lead to further resistance.Abdominal discomfort, gas, and cramping associated with this gut recovery are likely contributing to his disturbed sleep over the last 15 days.Management typically involves smaller, more frequent meals of bland starches like rice and, if recommended by a pediatrician, a temporary switch to a lactose-free formula for four to eight weeks to allow the gut to heal.It is critical to monitor for dehydration signs, such as decreased urine output or no tears when crying, and seek immediate medical care if these occur or if you notice blood in his stool.
Stool frequency has improved, which is a good sign. After a stomach infection, stools may remain loose for 1–3 weeks due to temporary gut irritation. Appetite and sleep can also take some time to recover. Continue normal feeds, breastfeeding, ORS and prescribed medicines. Review with your pediatrician if diarrhea lasts >2 weeks, fever returns, blood appears in stool, or weight loss/dehydration develops.
Solid food intake usually decreases following an illness in children and regarding persistent loose stools, follow up with your pediatrician as cause needs to be determined.
