Weight loss is common in Type 1 diabetes but can occur in Type 2 diabetes as well. In either case, this weight loss symptom is risky and shows that your mother's diabetes is uncontrolled as is not being managed properly. The weight loss happens due to either insulin levels are falling down or cells have stopped responding to insulin signals in spite of too much insulin in the blood. Insulin is a hormone that maintains muscle mass and fat in the body and if the hormone balance is deranged patient starts losing muscle and fat, which results in weight loss and is very dangerous as diabetes eats away the body. Your mother's diabetes needs to be handled correctly at the earliest, else the complications will soon start multiplying in the body. I have over 8 years of experience in CURING (not just managing blood sugar levels) Diabetes of thousands of patients by our specific Diabetes Management-For-Complete-Reversal-Module, which as your mother follows will give complete freedom from diabetes and any heart or kidney complications in future.

Pl check if your mothers blood sugar is under control. Weight loss is seen when blood sugar is not controlled as the sugar from food instead of being utilized by the cells go out through the urine. If her blood sugar is controlled and still she is seeing weight loss she could be on medicines like SGLT2 inhibitors. If blood sugar is controlled and she is not on these meds then she may require an examination to check for non diabetes related causes of weight loss.
