Your concern definitely needs attention and treatment. And there are ways to come out so don’t worry .
Slow learners , have to struggle a lot for studying and may be in other areas also so often they are encountered more with dissatisfaction , advices ,comparison and poor feedbacks .
They want acceptance from the society with what they are and when they are burdened with expectations out of their capacity they develop a low self esteem which may lead to depression.
Many other things also needs to be evaluated to understand the root cause of depression.
If depression is treated initially it can be treated better.
But since you want help at home all that you can do is....
Active listening
Never make her feel low , listen to what ever she says with concern.make her believe that she will be fine . Depression patients are always in a mental stress that they are abnormal so make them believe that this happens to many people and also with small efforts they have come out.
Acceptance
They want people to accept them with their limitations and praise and appreciate them , give them responsibility but only enough that they can do .
Diversion
Try to involve them in some activity , hobbies, sports to make them busy.
Nutritive food
Healthy Food intake plays a good role.
Dark green leafy vegetables, berries ,omega3 fatty acids, walnuts, avacado….all these help brain function run smoothly.
physical Exercise :
Exercise releases endorphins,( a chemical that produces feeling of joy ) the body’s very own natural antidepressant.
Effective exercising gives an immediate sense of endorphin-induced euphoria.
We feel uplifted and clear-headed, an effective treatment for depression.
Certain studies have compared the antidepressant effects of aerobic exercise training to the popular antidepressant medicine sertraline.
Exercise stimulates the release of many of the brain chemicals which are in low supply when someone is battling depression .
Yoga and meditation :
Very effective , deep breathing intakes a good proportion of oxygen in your body and oxygenates the blood cells well thus boosting your mood.
Deep breathing also slows down the release of stress hormone .
All this can be a supplementary help but counseling is extremely important and inevitable .If your cousin isn't ready you can approach a counselor and understand how you can help her to fight depression at home.
I too take online as well as face to face .If needed I also give home visits .....for counseling.you can approach me as well.
Goodluck and take care.

In case of Psychological issues , therapy is best rather than medicine s.
But sometimes it is also necessary to take medicine.
We have to examine the patient Clinically for diagnosis of the disease.
Consult Psychologist or Me online or offline and take proper help.
Family members must be aware of the disease snd they must keep contact with psychologist as close Relatives are the primary Care givers of the patients.

Hello practo user
I can understand the difficult situation that you are going through regarding your cousin. It seems that some past negative events have been unresolved and thus contributing to these current symptoms. You can try and suggest deep breathing and meditation on a regular basis to help clear her mind of negative thoughts . Regular exercise will keep her mind and body healthy and active , exercise also releases hormones which make a person happy naturally. Ask her to spend more quality time with her friends and family members and keep her occupied in activities of her choice . It is advisable that you seek help from a clinical psychologist for a better understanding of her case and formulation of a personalized treatment plan through regular counseling sessions. You can also reach out to me through the practo app for any further help or guidance.
Next Steps
consult a clinical psychologist
