Depressed is a day to day basis word used to denote feeling low. Fear of something bad denotes anxiety. Both are signs of some ongoing life stress as well as mental illnesses. So,your wife needs to consult a psychiatrist either here or in person. Think about it & revert back
Next Steps
in interim, ask your wife to make a detailed list of everything which upsets her

Some more questions need to be answered- like is there something she's stressed about? Is she getting adequate sleep? How is your relationship with her? Are you two having any problems? Has she ever thought of suicide? Has there been change in her food habits or her day to day activities?
