Yes and no..
dental post does make your tooth a little weaker as wider drills are used.
But for a post, the clinical and Radiographical condition of the tooth is to be considered.
If there is loss of greater crown structure, a mere RCT would be insufficient, hence the suggestion of a dental post. This will give additional support for the crown structure which is to be placed.
However, if this is not considered in few cases, then it’ll be difficult to place a crown post RCT and might have to be consider for tooth removal later as it can’t be saved.
Hello
Dental posts does not weaken the tooth
When the tooth has lost more of its crown structure dental posts are used as they help in building the necessary tooth structure required to fix a cap on the tooth. It increases the chances of survival of the tooth for a few years rather than extracting it.
In the process of saving a tooth which should otherwise be removed, this technique is used. This procedure might or might not weaken the tooth, which depends on the remaining tooth structure. Even if it weakens the tooth, it is worth trying
