LMP was 19 sept, I had unprotected sex on 20 sept and took ipill. Right now it's my 45th day of cycle with no periods. My normal cycle was 33-36days. i have history of PCOS in which my cycles went for 49-50 days for which I took cabergoline in January for 3 months, then it get fine. I don't think it's PCOS this time. Also, I did 3 UPT at home. Recent one being on 44th day, all 3 was negative. What's the issue?
How long should I wait? Should I take period inducing medicine? Will it cause more problem as I have taken ipill before? Or is it right time to take it? Please help
Delayed periods can occur after taking an emergency contraceptive pill (i-pill), as it can temporarily alter your menstrual cycle and delay ovulation or periods. Your history of PCOS may also contribute to irregular cycles.
Since you have done three urine pregnancy tests, including one on the 44th day of your cycle, and all are negative, pregnancy is unlikely. However, if it has been at least 21 days since the unprotected intercourse, a negative urine pregnancy test is generally reliable.
Health Tips
Repeat a urine pregnancy test or get a serum beta-hCG if you want confirmation.
2. Wait for another 5–7 days, as your periods may start spontaneously.
3. Do not take period-inducing medication (such as progesterone) without consulting your gynaecologist and excluding pregnancy.
4. If periods do not occur, consult your gynaecologist for evaluation, including a pelvic ultrasound and hormonal assessment if indicated.
A delayed period after taking the i-pill is common, since it can shift your cycle by a week or more, and your PCOS history also makes your cycles naturally less predictable. Three negative tests, including one on day 44, make pregnancy unlikely.
Next Steps
Please see your gynaecologist for a check if your period still has not started in the next few days, since a gap this long with PCOS sometimes needs a tablet to bring it on.
Health Tips
Come in sooner if you get heavy pain, unusual bleeding, or any test turns positive.
