My 22-month-old has had a cold and cough for about 3 weeks now. We’ve already seen our GP (based in Ireland), and thankfully his cough has improved quite a bit.
However, I’ve noticed that whenever he runs around a lot or gets very active (for example, chasing a ball), he starts coughing continuously. We have to stop his activity then the coughing immediately settles. He doesn’t seem to cough as much when he’s calm or resting.
Is it normal to cough like this during the recovery of a cold and cough?
How long did it take for the cough to completely go away?
Any home remedies?
Thanks in advance!

This needs detailed history and evaluation, but based on what you have mentioned, it looks like post viral cough. It can persist for 2-4 weeks. If it persists beyond that, you will need reassessment. Since it is improving, nothing much needs to be done. You can give warm water with honey for soothing his throat.
