Coarctation of Aorta in M/33 Years.
Coarctation of Aorta present : gradient across descending aorta-70 mm HG. Normal Size Aortic Root. All four valves are structurally normal. There is 3cm segment of diffuse narrowing of the descending thoracic aorta approximately 1.6cm distal to origin of left subclavian artery. Diameter of the stenotic segment at its narrowest part measures 0.7cm. prestenotic and poststenotic dilated segments measure 1.7 cm and 2.1 cm respectively There is a mild hypodense wall circumferential wall thickening

There are two options here-: 1) Open heart surgery 2) Coarctoplasty Both are equally good options. I did a coarctoplasty for an 18 yrs old girl in 2013. She continues to do well. No restenosis, gradients ~10 mm of ABG. Normal life. Ideally this requires surgery, as per literature and guidelines, however trans-catheter intervention is equally good.
