Choking/constriction of breath in night
Around 15 days ago I started having a few explosive coughs while sleeping following which I immediately woke up and was unable to either exhale or inhale air. I felt as if my airway is completely blocked for 2 to 3 minutes and eyes start watering as I struggle to breath . Breath is regained after about 2 mins. I have gerd since 20 years but no other disease.i had COVID hospitalisation 2 years back and fever,cough 2 months back for which I had takes Amoxicillin. Pl advice

If your gerd is under control,It could be related to sleep apnoea.Get a polysomnogram to confirm and consult a sleep specialist for further evaluation If gerd not controlled,possible that you choked on gastric contents.need to consult a gastroenterilogist,since as per your information,its long standing.

According to your sign and symptom you are suffering from obstructive sleep apnea . Reason - Muscle of of the back of soft palate region are relax so during sleep this close the Respiratory tract and respiration close and due to that brain will not get proper oxygen and that stimulates nervous system and You wake up during sleep and deep breathing start and that cause cough etc.
