An orthodontist is a specialist trained to perform braces. For aligning your teeth both options ceramic and metal braces are used. Metal braces have been in use for long time now. They are effective, less expensive but at the same time will give you a metallic smile. Ceramic braces were introduced later than metal braces. However they are getting popular since their main advantage is the smile looks more natural considering duration of treatment for braces varies from 6months to -2 years. Ceramic braces like metallic are effective option for alignment of teeth but are more expensive. Care needs to be taken during treatment incase if the bracket dislodges it must be reported to the doctor to avoid undesirable forces. As far as time of treatment is concerned, it will vary depending on the current existing alignment of your teeth. As far as comfort is concerned the ceramic brackets are slightly larger than the metal brackets but are very much comfortable. Hope this helps !! Regards, Dr. Malini Thakur
