CBT for mental illness..
Hello doctor, I'm on medications for Schizophrenia. Doctor said it takes very long time to recover from this psychic condition. On the prescription he wrote "mild schizophrenia". He said Cognitive Behavioral Therapy + medicines = Best results. For that should I consult a psychiatrist or a psychotherapist? Who listens to me carefully? I feel clinical psychologists are better for this since counseling is their only job. I see psychiatrists also providing CBT services. Each session of CBT requires more than 40 minutes. Psychiatrists must see more number of patients than psychologists. So psychologists will have ample amount of time than Psychiatrists. So psychologists could spend more amount of time with their clients than Psychiatrists. My question is, Despite their tight schedule, how is it possible for Psychiatrists to provide therapies which might last for 50 minutes or more while patients are waiting at large numbers for a consultation? Help me to understand this. Thank you.

Hello dear, you are right that CBT requires at least 30-40 min session. How psychiatrist manages his time though should not be your concern because if he commits to a patient for the same, he will ensure adequate time and attention be provided. If you still are doubtful, Consult a psychologist. Good luck!
